Thermoformers are gaining a foothold in large exterior panels of specialized automobiles and utility vehicles. In these applications, thermoforming is replacing steel, aluminum, glass-reinforced composites, and sometimes even injection molded plastics.
Why is ABS blister moulding often used to make large medical equipment housings? First we have to understand its performance characteristics.
1. ABS is synthesised from three chemical monomers: acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. The individual properties of these three components give ABS good overall mechanical properties. Acrylonitrile gives ABS good chemical resistance and surface hardness, butadiene makes ABS tough, and styrene gives it good processability and dyeing properties.
2. The properties of ABS depend largely on the ratio of the three monomers and the molecular structure in the two phases. This allows great flexibility in product design and has resulted in hundreds of different qualities of ABS materials on the market.
3. ABS materials have superb processability, good appearance, low creep and excellent dimensional stability.
4. ABS materials are readily accepted for common secondary processing, such as machining, bonding, fastening, plating, painting and ultrasonic welding.
5、ABS has excellent impact strength and does not deteriorate rapidly at low temperatures. It has good mechanical strength, hardness and a certain degree of wear resistance.
6、It has good cold resistance, oil resistance, water resistance and chemical stability. Water, inorganic salts, alkalis and acids have almost no effect on ABS, which dissolves or forms emulsions in ketones, aldehydes, esters and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
In general, it is because ABS has certain rigidity, hardness, impact and chemical resistance, radiation resistance and ethylene oxide sterilization resistance. Large medical equipment shells are large, so the materials used to make them need to have good workability, and the environment in which they are used is special, so they need to be impact and chemical resistant, radiation and ethylene oxide resistant, and they are used to carry heavy things, so they need to be rigid and hard.
